Cable or Satellite
When you purchase a satellite dish, you will also receive diagrams and a guide to help you wire it. However, if you feel you are not able to do this on your own, it is safer to hire a professional electrician to do it for you. Electrical wiring systems are NOT something to adopt the “trial and error” method with.
However, it is important that you know how it is done. First, you must identify what installation system is right for the specific satellite dish that you have purchased. Once you have identified the model of your satellite dish you must then determine how many receivers you plan to install.
Installation also depends on whether your receivers are high resolution or DVR (Digital Video Recorders). If you are not sure of the receiver then make sure that you browse online and identify it. It is only then that you will be able to determine which wiring diagram fits your satellite dish.
Lay out the satellite dish diagram and study it carefully. It will show you the precise installation system and the parts you require (switches, diplexers, ground blocks etc.). Clear lines will be drawn showing the exact connection that is needed from the dish to the receiver(s). Remember, there are no short cuts to this installation method.
Once you have installed the dish and once you have double checked the wiring, switch on the receiver and check if it works properly. If at any point you feel you are unsure, then stop working on it alone and consult a professional electrician.
