Tamper Resistant Receptacles
Tamper Resistant Receptacles (TRRs) have a built in mechanism that shuts off the power to an outlet in case any foreign object is inserted into it. TRRs are ideal for homes with small children. In fact the Electrical Code in most states requires licensed electricians to install TRRs in new homes.

Every year more than 2,400 children under the age of 10 in the United States are treated for electrical shocks and burns. We have electrical outlets all over our homes and it is almost impossible to watch your child every moment of the day. Therefore TRR Technology offers you an uncomplicated, affordable and reliable safety solution that is also permanent. Professional electricians can install TRRs easily and quickly.
TRRs look like ordinary power outlets. The difference is that they are designed with what is called a “spring loaded receptacle cover plate”. These plates close off electricity to outlets/power slots if they are being tampered with.
How TRRs Work
When we insert a plug into an outlet, we apply equal pressure simultaneously to both sides. The outlet then "knows" that a plug is being inserted. Without simultaneous pressure, the outlet recognizes a foreign object so the plates close preventing anything from being inserted.
You don’t have to rebuild or refurbish your home to install TRRs. Existing homes can easily be fitted with these tamper resistant receptacles. It is very important to note that TRRs must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor.
