Certified Electrical Inspections
An electrical inspection is carried out by a certified electrical inspector. This is to ensure that the electrical system and wiring in your home and/or building meets the legal safety standards. There is a national electrical code which inspectors use as a guideline to determine whether your installation is acceptable or not. A single or multiple electrical inspections will be required in order to obtain an electrical permit.
You can always hire a professional electrical contractor to ensure that your wiring is up to standard and your home or building will pass the inspection. If by any chance, the inspector finds something to be faulty; he/she will inform you, the building manager or the project manager. Ample time will be given to fix the problem and then another inspection will be carried out.
Types of Electrical Inspections
There are 3 main types of electrical inspections that take place during an installation. They are:
1.“Rough in” – all the wires, conduits and boxes are inspected.
2.“Service inspection” – proper installation of the service panel and proper grounding.
3.“Final inspection” – all breakers and final touches must be installed and the electrical system is tested for full functionality.
All the work MUST be done by a professional, licensed electrician. Also check if your area allows state certified electricians or require a nationally certified electrician. Although this may seem a hassle, this is to ensure that quality work is done and no one is hurt in the long run. Electrical inspections are not limited to new buildings/constructions. Additions to a building or a home that is to be serviced by electricity must also be inspected.
